LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on a man for providing false information in a petition concerning a love marriage.

Justice Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan ruled that the petitioner, Shoaib Zafar, would remain in police custody until the fine is paid.

The decision came during proceedings in a case filed by Zafar seeking the recovery of Farida Bibi, with whom he claimed to have contracted a love marriage.

According to the petition, Zafar alleged that he married Farida Bibi on June 6, 2025, and accused her parents of forcibly taking her away.

During the hearing, Justice Khan cautioned the petitioner that he would face a fine if the woman did not testify in his favour.

When the court reconvened, Farida Bibi appeared and stated that she wished to return with her parents instead of accompanying the petitioner.

Based on her statement, the court found Shoaib Zafar guilty of misrepresentation and imposed the Rs50,000 fine.

The court’s ruling underscores the judiciary’s strict stance against misleading statements in sensitive family and marriage-related cases.
