HYDERABAD:

A 20-year-old youth lost his life while kite flying in Hyderabad’s Babri Lane, highlighting once again the dangers of chemical string. According to police, Faiz, son of Abda, a resident of Babri Lane, was flying a kite from his rooftop when the chemical string wrapped around his neck. Losing balance, he fell directly onto 11,000?KV power lines and died on the spot. Neighbours said the victim was rushed to Civil Hospital Hyderabad, where doctors confirmed his death.

DSP City Abdul Rahman Brohi told reporters that Faiz fell while flying a kite from the roof. He added that action was being taken against those involved in the sale and purchase of chemical string, which remains banned but continues to circulate in local markets.

Meanwhile, in Sanghar, concerns over the resurgence of kite flying and chemical string have resurfaced. A local youth approached the Sanghar Press Club to narrate his ordeal, warning of the growing illegal trade. He said that while walking recently, a sharp chemical string suddenly struck his neck due to strong winds, leaving him injured and terrified. “My clothes were torn, my neck was cut, and I barely survived. God gave me a new life,” he said.

The youth added that the unchecked sale of chemical string is endangering lives and destroying the future of the younger generation. “Children are distracted from education and spend their time kite flying, which is leading to more accidents,” he warned.

The incidents have renewed calls for strict enforcement against the hazardous practice, which continues to claim lives across Sindh.
