SUKKUR: District and Sessions Judge Larkana/Incharge Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Larkana remained unharmed, while his police guard was martyred and two others injured after the judge’s escort came under attack by robbers at Larkana-Khairpur Road in Tando Masti.
Reports said the judge was on his way back to Larkana after attending the annual dinner of High Court Bar Association when the incident happened. Police guard Maqbool Azam Shaikh was martyred, while policemen Iqbal Mallano and Sagheer Ahmed were injured in the attack.
DSP Gambat Malheer Khan Patto said that robbers were looting vehicles near Baharo Khairpur-Larkana Road when the judge’s escort was attacked by the robbers. He said the judge was rescued while his security guard was martyred.
He said that an operation led by DIG Sukkur and SSP Khairpur Hassan Sardar Niazi was under way to arrest the culprits. He said that some suspects have been arrested.
Home Minister Sindh and IGP Sindh taking notice of the attack on District and Sessions Judge Larkana ordered the DIG Sukkur to ensure the arrest of the culprits and intensify patrolling on highways.
Meanwhile, Sindh High Court Bar Associations Sukkur, Karachi, Hyderabad and District Bar Associations condemned the incident and demanded the arrest of culprits. They termed the incident a security lapse.
The funeral prayers for the martyred policeman Maqbool Azam Shaikh was offered with full official honours at the Police Headquarters, Larkana.
