Reflecting an overall improvement in the law and order situation, Hyderabad police reported a significant decline in police encounters during the outgoing year. A total of 16 suspects were killed and 40 injured in 49 encounters, compared to 28 killed and 150 injured in 2024.
Briefing the media on Friday, police spokesperson Inspector Shahid Usman said that 6,744 FIRs were registered during the year, leading to the arrest of 6,788 accused persons.
The district police also cracked down effectively on organised crime, busting 90 outlaw gangs and securing convictions in 197 criminal cases from various courts. As part of an aggressive anti-narcotics campaign, police registered 493 FIRs related to substance abuse, arrested 553 suspects, and recovered 876 kilograms of hashish, 16 kilograms of ice, and 190 grams of heroin.
Usman added that police intensified action against the illegal trade of gutka and mainpuri. During 2025, as many as 806 FIRs were registered, 1,184 suspects were arrested, and 107,995 kilograms of raw materials and finished products were seized.
The district police also apprehended 575 absconders and proclaimed offenders during the year. Among the 197 convictions, 14 were for murder, 94 for liquor-related offences, 30 for gutka and mainpuri cases, 19 for betting, and two each for attempted murder and possession of illegal weapons. Additionally, police recovered 21 four-wheel vehicles and 101 motorcycles during various operations.
SSP Adeel Hussain Chandio headed the district police for most of the year after assuming charge on March 7. He replaced SSP Farrukha Ali Lanjar, who was removed following protests by lawyers.
