The Islamabad Electric Supply Company has launched a door-to-door data collection campaign to update its records and enhance communication with consumers, Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

The initiative aims to streamline ownership verification, billing accuracy, installment facilitation, and ensure timely communication regarding load-shedding and maintenance schedules. The campaign will cover more than 400,000 consumers across the Rawalpindi City Circle.

The campaign is being spearheaded by Superintending Engineer Mohsin Ali Memon, with on-ground implementation supervised by XEN Shah Nawaz of the Westridge Subdivision.

Under this initiative, IESCO field teams in the Westridge, Satellite Town, and City Subdivisions are conducting door-to-door visits to collect consumers’ Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) numbers and mobile phone details. The gathered data is being compiled into a centralised digital database, enabling the company to send real-time service updates and notifications directly to registered consumers via SMS.

XEN Shah Nawaz stated that, in accordance with the directives of Superintending Engineer Mohsin Ali Memon, the door-to-door process is being carried out transparently. Staff members are scanning original CNICs and entering consumer information directly into the central system. He noted that once the database is fully updated, fraudulent meter transfers and property encroachments will be prevented, as ownership changes will require verification and consent from the registered property owner.

He also urged citizens to verify the official identification cards of IESCO representatives before sharing their personal information, to ensure that unauthorised individuals do not exploit the campaign for illicit purposes. Shah Nawaz further assured that all collected data will remain strictly confidential and used solely for service improvement and consumer facilitation.

The initiative is expected to significantly enhance billing accuracy, ownership verification, and communication efficiency, paving the way for a modern, transparent, and consumer-friendly electricity management system.

Industry experts have lauded the campaign as a progressive step towards digital transparency and improved consumer trust through the effective use of modern technology.

Last week, the Islamabad Electric Supply Company teamed up with NADRA Technologies Limited to roll out mandatory biometric verification for all new electricity connections and reconnections.

The move, officials say, is aimed at making power distribution more transparent, secure, and consumer-friendly.

Anyone applying for a new electricity connection, or reconnecting after a disconnection, will have to go through biometric verification. The measure is designed to eliminate bogus and unauthorised connections, tighten accountability, and prevent fraud.

Officials believe the step will not only streamline service delivery but also help build trust between consumers and the utility provider.
