Suspect involved in seven murders; police continue search for fleeing accomplices
FAISALABAD:
An alleged inter-district contract killer was shot dead in a reported police encounter with the Crime Control Department (CCD) Lyallpur Town, while his accomplices managed to escape, police said.
The deceased suspect had allegedly been involved in the targeted killing of more than seven people for payment and was reportedly planning another high-profile attack in Faisalabad.
Police took the body into custody and shifted it to hospital for medico-legal formalities, while further legal proceedings were initiated.
As per the police report, acting on the directions of District Crime Control Department (CCD) Officer DSP Malik Tariq, a joint team comprising CCD Lyallpur Town Incharge Inspector Hassan Siddique Cheema, CCD Madina Town Incharge Inspector Syed Aram Raza Shah, CCD Iqbal Division Incharge Ali Akram Goraya, and SHO CCD Sub-Inspector Farooq Nazir conducted a raid in Chak 185 RB Budh Singh Wala, in the outskirts of Chak Jhumra, to arrest proclaimed offenders.
Police said that upon seeing the CCD team, the suspects opened indiscriminate fire and hid in sugarcane fields.
The Crime Control Department (CCD) personnel returned fire in self-defence and called for backup from district police.
However, according to the report, the SHO Chak Jhumra did not reach the scene despite being informed.
Senior Crime Control Department (CCD) officers later arrived and cordoned off the sugarcane fields, leading to an exchange of fire.
During the encounter, a 35-year-old man identified as Anas and a resident of Sabina Town, Faisalabad, was injured.
He was taken into custody and shifted to hospital, where he
later succumbed to his injuries.
Police claimed the deceased was the main shooter of the “Jejo gang” and was wanted in multiple cases of target killings across Punjab, including in Daska, Sialkot and Sargodha.
He was also allegedly involved in the killing of Police Constable Imran Ashiq during a previous encounter on the expressway.
Authorities further alleged that his next target was a legal professional in Faisalabad and his brother, for which he had reportedly accepted a contract.
The body was shifted to the mortuary of Allied Hospital.
Police launched a search operation in the area to trace the remaining suspects, but no further arrests were reported.
