LAHORE:
Thousands of Pakistan Railways passengers will soon enjoy a significantly improved travel experience as Lahore’s historic railway station undergoes a major modernization project.
The initiative, supported by the Punjab Government, aims to provide modern parking facilities, beautifully landscaped parks, and dedicated access roads, eliminating long queues, hours-long traffic congestion, and difficulties in reaching the station.
Officials said the project includes the construction of a spacious car park capable of accommodating 250-300 vehicles, allowing travelers to park conveniently and avoid previous delays caused by limited parking space.
In addition to the parking area, a modern park is being developed outside the station, providing a pleasant environment for families, commuters, and visitors.
The park will include seating areas, green spaces, and pathways, making it a welcoming addition to the station’s surroundings.
To further enhance access, dedicated entry and exit roads are being built, connecting the railway station directly to Lahore’s main thoroughfares.
A new bridge will facilitate smooth travel for passengers coming from different parts of the city, while link roads will ensure easy access to other districts and neighborhoods.
This infrastructure is designed to significantly reduce traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours when thousands of passengers travel to and from the station.
Deputy Director of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Project, Faisal Shafi, said the modernisation initiative is progressing at a rapid pace and is expected to be completed within the current year.
He added that the project not only addresses parking challenges but also improves urban mobility and public convenience for travelers.
“Once completed, Lahore Railway Station will offer modern parking, easy access roads, and a family-friendly environment, similar in standard to Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport,” he said.
Inside the station, several upgrades have already been completed.
VIP and family lounges have been established, providing high-quality food and beverages, comfortable seating, and a secure waiting area for travelers and their relatives.
