SHANGLA:
A fresh wave of severe stormy weather, featuring heavy downpours, strong winds, and hail, has swept through Shangla district, plunging the region into an intense cold spell and severely disrupting normal life.
The latest bout of monsoon-like rain began with thunderous storms, bringing torrential rainfall and hail in various parts of the district. As is typical during rain, the power supply system has been badly affected, leading to prolonged outages across many areas.
Following the heavy rain, freezing winds have taken hold of the valley, enveloping Shangla in biting cold. Residents report a sharp drop in temperatures, particularly in the upper regions including Alpuri and adjacent mountainous areas, where an unusual decline has been recorded. The combination of persistent downpours and hail has significantly intensified the chill, with mornings and nights turning especially harsh.
Daily routines have ground to a halt due to the extreme cold, with public activities slowing markedly. In some locations, heavy hailfall added to the woes. Locals say demand for heating fuel has surged.
