Cary Elwes remembers late Rob Reiner on his 79th birthday: ‘Still hard to believe’

Cary Elwes paid an emotional tribute to the late director Rob Reiner on his 79th birthday.

Taking to his Instagram handle on Friday, the Princess Bride actor shared a throwback photo of himself with the director.

“Today would have been your 79th birthday,” Cary captioned the post. “Still hard to believe you’re gone. Missing you so much”

For those unversed, Rob and his wife, Michele Singer, were found unresponsive in their Brentwood, California home in December 2025.

Following the heartbreaking tragedy, the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, was taken into custody on suspicion of murdering his parents.

The 32-year-old is currently being held without bond while he awaits trial.

After news of the couple’s deaths broke last year, Carey expressed his grief via social media.

“I was 24 when I first met Rob Reiner on The Princess Bride. And from that very first meeting I fell in love with him,” the actor wrote penned on Instagram at the time.

He further wrote, “I was already a fan of his work so meeting him in person was a dream come true. As we began spending more time together I knew this was someone I wanted in my life. I also knew that by casting me as Westley he was giving me the keys to the castle.”

“Thank you Rob and Michele for sharing your life and art with us,” added Cary. “Because my heart still aches every time I think of you, I know the grief of losing you too soon will likely never go away. Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you.”
