Speaking at the Season 4 premiere, Jess Brownell offered a subtle clue on the red carpet
Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell has confirmed that she already knows which characters will take centre stage in Seasons 5 and 6 of the Netflix period drama, although fans will have to wait longer to learn the order in which their stories will unfold.
Speaking to Deadline at the Season 4 premiere in Paris on January 14, Brownell offered a subtle clue while stopping on the red carpet at the Palais Brongniart.
Wearing two white pocket squares embroidered with the initials “E” and “F”, she confirmed that both characters represented by those letters would headline future seasons. “Both characters with the initials on my pocket squares will get seasons in five in six,” she said. “In what order? I can’t say.”
Bridgerton, adapted from Julia Quinn’s novel series, has already been renewed for a fifth and sixth season, continuing its format of focusing on a different Bridgerton sibling’s romantic journey each instalment. Brownell took over as showrunner in Season 3 and has overseen several narrative shifts, including changes to established book storylines.
Claudia Jessie, who plays Eloise Bridgerton, declined to confirm whether her character would be next in line. “I wish I could say that I have started working on [Eloise’s story],” she said, before jokingly cutting herself off from further comment.
Season 3 saw Hannah Dodd assume the role of Francesca Bridgerton, who married John Stirling, played by Victor Alli. Viewers familiar with When He Was Wicked will know that Francesca later falls in love with John’s cousin Michael. The series introduced a gender twist to this storyline by casting Masali Baduza as Michaela Stirling, who appeared in the season finale.
Speculation remains over whether Sir Philip Crane, portrayed by Chris Fulton, may return, potentially complicating predictions about which Bridgerton sibling will next step into the spotlight.
Season 4 of Bridgerton, starring Yerin Ha and Luke Thompson, will debut on Netflix on January 29 with its first four episodes, followed by the remaining four episodes on February 29.
