KARACHI:

Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Jr has called on the Pakistani government to withdraw from Gaza Peace Board and to extend support to Iran, while also demanding justice for the victims of the recent incident outside the United States Consulate General Karachi.

Son of Mir Murtaza Bhutto and grandson of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was speaking at a press conference on Friday at his residence at 70 Clifton in Karachi. Bhutto Jr expressed regret over what he described as the aggression of the United States and Israel against Iran and mourned the reported martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

He said that he stood with the families of those killed in the incident outside the US consulate in Karachi and demanded that they be provided justice. According to Bhutto Jr, young people had staged peaceful protests following the reported death of Ayatollah Khamenei.

Citing international media reports, he alleged that protesters were fired upon directly by US Marine personnel deployed at the consulate. He rejected claims that the protesters were terrorists and accused the consulate authorities of responsibility for the violence.

Bhutto Jr also said that elected representatives appeared to be under pressure and questioned whether Pakistan was functioning as an independent state. He claimed that after the incident, cases had been registered against the victims and injured persons.

He further stated that protests sometimes include individuals who may be “planted” to provoke violence. Addressing his cousin, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Bhutto Jr urged him to ensure justice for the victims’ families.
