The Punjab government has removed the acting medical superintendent of the Kot Momin Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital and Sargodha health chief executive officer from their posts over negligence of duty.

According to orders issued by the Punjab health secretary, CEO Dr Sara Safdar and acting MS Dr Fahad Shaheen were relieved of their responsibilities with immediate effect and directed to report to the health and population department. The action followed a late-night inspection of the THQ hospital by Special Assistant to Chief Minister Shoaib Mirza.

The provincial government ordered disciplinary action on the basis of the inspection report..

Only one medical officer was found present at the Kot Momin THQ Hospital during the inspection by the Punjab Chief Minister’s Inspection Team along with the special assistant.

According to a handout, erious administrative and medical lapses were noted during the visit.

Other doctors were absent and the acting MS was also found at home. When questioned, the duty doctor said he was on the way from Lahore to Kot Momin.

A patient who had been brought to the hospital for medical assistance after delivery at home had to wait for more than half an hour before receiving care.

The inspection team also found the Khidmat Counter and X-ray room closed, while no announcements are being made regarding the availability of free medicines.

Special Assistant Shoaib Mirza checked the hospital record and expressed concern over the state of affairs.

He sent a report to the relevant authorities, seeking immediate action against those responsible for negligence and poor management at the hospital.
