LAHORE:
A man in police custody was shot dead by his accomplices during an ambush on a Crime Control Department (CCD) team in Chung.
According to the police, CCD personnel were transporting the suspect, identified as Ali Raza, for recovery of items related to the investigation involving him when his accomplices opened fire near Chung in a bid to free him.
Raza was caught in the crossfire and died on the spot after being hit by bullets.
Police officials said the attackers managed to escape despite the presence of law enforcement personnel at the scene. The police added that Raza had been wanted in more than three dozen serious criminal cases.
An investigation was launched into the incident.
Meanwhile, the CCD Anti-Kidnapping for Ransom Cell rescued a 12-year-old boy, Ahmed Ali, who had gone missing from Shadbagh two days ago. The boy’s mother had lodged a case of abduction at Shadbagh police station. The Anti-Kidnapping Cell traced the child to the Bhatti Gate Bird Market area. Officials said the boy was reunited with his parents. They added that the rescue was made possible through the Hamara Piyara app, the Virtual Child Protection Centre, and social media tracking tools.
