Envoy highlights Swedish companies’ role in Reko Diq project, growing commercial presence
ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan and Sweden have explored expanding cooperation in the mining and energy sectors, with Swedish companies already contributing to the Reko Diq project and expressing interest in further investment.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik held a meeting with Sweden’s Ambassador to Pakistan Alexandra Berg von Linde to discuss bilateral cooperation and potential partnerships in the natural resource sector.
According to a statement issued on Friday, both sides acknowledged the long-standing relationship between Pakistan and Sweden and stressed the importance of strengthening economic and industrial collaboration.
Ambassador Berg von Linde said Sweden has maintained strong engagement with Pakistan for 77 years, with cooperation spanning sectors such as transport, telecommunications, packaging and industry. She noted that more than 40 companies are currently members of the Swedish Business Council in Pakistan, reflecting Sweden’s commercial presence in the country.
The ambassador identified mining as a promising sector for future collaboration, stating that Sweden has extensive expertise in areas including digitalisation, sustainability, mining services and environmental protection.
She said Swedish companies are already contributing to Pakistan’s mining sector and see significant potential for further growth.
Referring to the Reko Diq project, the ambassador said Swedish companies are supporting the project by providing products and services, connectivity solutions as well as explosives-related components.
Malik acknowledged the continued Swedish investment and business presence in Pakistan and said the government is working with international partners to develop the country’s natural resource sector.
