The case of Jeffrey Epstein and the subsequent release of court documents, the ‘Epstein Files’ has become a powerful and controversial symbol of the intersection between extreme wealth, power and alleged criminality.
Jeffrey Epstein, although highly intelligent and resourceful person with formidable cognitive agility, was a convicted sex offender. He pleaded guilty in 2008 to Florida state charges of soliciting a minor for prostitution. Later, he was indicted in 2019 on federal charges for sex trafficking of minors in New York and Florida. He died allegedly by suicide in a Manhattan jail cell in August 2019, while awaiting trial.
The central, disturbing allegation is that Epstein did not act alone. He is accused of operating a sex trafficking ring that procured underage girls for himself and for his powerful associates. The ring kept operating for decades in locations, including his homes in New York and Palm Beach as well as his private island in the US Virgin Islands, Little St James. Unconfirmed reports suggest that cannibalism and other satanic rituals were performed on the premises of Jeffery Epstein.
The data collected so far includes Epstein’s address books, flight logs for his private plane the ‘Lolita Express’, and testimonies from survivors. Name ‘Lolita Express’ has been derived from Vladimir Nabokov’s 1955 novel Lolita, which deals with the story of a middle-aged man’s obsession with a 12-year-old girl.
These documents and testimonies point to associations with who’s who of the global elite. These included politicians, notably former American presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump. Though no evidence collected so far suggests they participated in illegal activity, their social ties have been scrutinised by US authorities. Name of Indian Prime Minister Modi has also appeared in the files for his shameful act of trying to please Trump by dancing and singing in the court of Netanyahu.
In royalty, the name of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, is also there. He settled a civil lawsuit with accuser Virginia Giuffre, though he has denied the allegations. Billionaires and financiers named in the files include figures like Leslie Wexner, former owner of L Brands; Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former girlfriend, convicted and sentenced for her role; and others. Epstein cultivated relationships with prominent academics and scientists like Stephen Hawking and Marvin Minsky, often through donations. He was surrounded by top lawyers and powerful enablers who helped manage his affairs or secure his controversial 2008 plea deal.
Virginia Giuffre’s defamation lawsuit against Ghislaine Maxwell led to the initial unsealing of thousands of pages in 2019-2020. These contained depositions, names and allegations. In January 2024, a new batch of nearly 1,000 pages from the Giuffre vs Maxwell case was unsealed by court order. It’s a stark story of vulnerable young girls allegedly being exploited by some of the world’s most powerful and well-connected people. Epstein’s 2008 non-prosecution agreement and his ability to move in elite circles for years after his first conviction fueled the belief that wealth and connections can buy impunity.
Although the mainstream media is trying to trivialise the idea and allegation that Jeffrey Epstein’s activities were a Mossad intelligence operation, the circumstantial evidence points to a sinister design to control the global elite and use the ‘kompromat’ for drawing concessions and forcing decision-making.
Epstein had well-documented social and financial ties to several prominent Israeli and Jewish figures, most notably Leslie Wexner, the billionaire founder of L Brands. Epstein was his financial adviser and had unprecedented control over Wexner’s finances and properties. Wexner is a major philanthropist in the Jewish community.
Former Israeli Prime Minister and military chief Ehud Barak visited Epstein’s New York townhouse multiple times, a fact confirmed by Barak himself, though he claims it was for legitimate business. Epstein himself claimed relationships with other former Israeli leaders like Itzhak Shamir and Shimon Peres, though the depth is unclear.
Epstein’s longtime associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, is the daughter of Robert Maxwell, a notorious British media mogul and alleged Israeli intelligence asset. Robert Maxwell’s ties to the Israeli security establishment are documented; he was close to figures in Mossad and was buried in Israel with a state-attended funeral.
The Mossad theory posits that Epstein’s sex-trafficking ring was a classic intelligence “honeypot” operation — compromising powerful individuals (politicians, billionaires, royalty) with underage girls to create blackmail material (kompromat) that could be used for geopolitical leverage, presumably for Israel’s benefit.
Epstein, through his vast network of powerful global contacts, possessed information that was of critical intelligence value. A smart intelligence service would have sought to collect that information. His association with figures like Robert Maxwell’s daughter and Ehud Barak points to a darker aspect of Mossad.
While Mossad’s role in Epstein Files may be brushed under the carpet, the question arises about the ability or connivance of the elite intelligence and investigation agencies of the West. Why were CIA, FBI, MI6 and Five Eyes sleeping over activities of Mr Epstein for two decades? Was it an intelligence black hole or willful connivance?
Finally, we come to the issue of “moral bankruptcy of the global elite”. There is a widespread critique in contemporary discussion by common people, especially in the social media, reflecting deep disillusionment with the individuals and institutions perceived to hold disproportionate global power — politically, financially and culturally. The “moral bankruptcy” has morphed into a profound crisis of legitimacy.
This sentiment is likely to fuel populist movements of both the left and right, create distrust in international institutions and underpin demands for radical systemic change.
The documented story of a wealthy predator using victims to build a network of influence among the global elite is shocking and warrants soul searching at strategic leadership levels. The search for justice and understanding should focus on the proven facts and the testimony of survivors, to at least put the moral compass back to facing the true North.
