Malik Asad Nawaz Advocate quits PPP and PLF, calling 27th amendment unconstitutional
RAWALPINDI:
Former Joint Secretary and current Secretary Record and Event of the Peoples Lawyers Forum, Malik Asad Nawaz Advocate, has announced his resignation from the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Peoples Lawyers Forum in protest against the approval and support of the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
Calling the amendment a brutal killing of the sacrifices made by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto for constitutional supremacy, rule of law, and democracy, he said his decision was based on the voice of his conscience.
He stated that the PPP’s support for what he firmly believes to be an unconstitutional and undemocratic amendment leaves him with no moral or ideological space to continue holding office.
He said Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto sacrificed their lives for democracy, constitutional supremacy, and public rights, with Benazir Bhutto martyred during the struggle for democratic restoration.
He added that the vision for which they sacrificed has been crushed through this amendment.
As someone loyal to Bhutto’s democratic vision and Benazir’s lifelong struggle, he said he cannot ignore the bitter truth that their sacrifices have been rendered meaningless by the political actions of their own son and husband.
He asserted that he holds no moral, political, or ideological obligation to support any party or cause that contradicts the principles for which these leaders laid down their lives.
