ISLAMABAD:
A 30-year-old man was shot dead and a police constable injured in a targeted killing near Shakarparian on Sunday, prompting a search operation in the area.
According to a police official, the incident occurred near the Open Air Theatre at Shakarparian when an unidentified armed assailant opened fire at close range before fleeing the scene.
The deceased was identified as Sanaullah, son of Ameer Nawab Umar, a resident of district Karak who was living in Islamabad. He sustained critical bullet injuries and was rushed to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds. His body was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for post-mortem examination.
During the attack, Constable Hussain Shah, who was performing checking duty at the entry point, was also injured after a bullet grazed his right leg. He was shifted to hospital, where his condition was reported to be stable and out of danger.
Initial investigations revealed that the assailant approached the victim from behind, reportedly wearing a shawl, and opened fire about 10 to 15 metres from the entry point. Police said personal enmity appeared to be a possible motive, though all aspects of the case were being examined.
Following the incident, police cordoned off the area, collected forensic evidence, and launched a search operation to trace the suspect. Special teams have been constituted to arrest those involved.
Police officials said efforts were underway to identify and apprehend the attacker at the earliest, adding that strict action would be taken against those responsible.
