HYDERABAD:
The Hyderabad Flour Mills Owners Social Welfare Association has expressed concern over reports of adulteration in government wheat stocks and urged the Sindh government to conduct laboratory testing before releasing the commodity to flour mills and roller mills.
Association General Secretary Haji Najmuddin Chauhan has written to the Sindh food secretary, with copies sent to the governor, chief minister, provincial food minister, chief secretary, divisional commissioner, deputy commissioner, deputy director food and district food controller Hyderabad. The letter highlights recurring media reports alleging that wheat stored in government warehouses in Hyderabad, Bhulari and other parts of Sindh has been mixed with soil, debris, stones and powder, allegedly with the connivance of food department officials and staff.
The association demanded that the quality of wheat stored in government warehouses across Sindh be tested by an accredited laboratory and that certificates of quality be shared with flour mill owners before distribution. It said this was necessary to ensure that flour supplied to the public meets health and hygiene standards.
