QUETTA:
After weeks of dry and cold weather, several other parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, experienced the first rainfall of the winter season on Saturday, bringing a visible change to the province’s weather.
The rain, which continued for several hours, refreshed the air and intensified the cold.
In Quetta, many residents stepped out to hotels, restaurants, food centres and recreational spots to enjoy the pleasant weather. Citizens described the rainfall as a welcome relief after a prolonged dry spell that had raised concerns about drought-like conditions.
Despite the positive mood, the rainfall also highlighted ongoing civic issues. Residents in different parts of the city reported low gas pressure and unannounced electricity load-shedding, creating difficulties as temperatures dropped further.
The lack of gas for heating and cooking, coupled with power outages, added to the challenges faced by households.
Local resident Abdul Rahim said the rain had lifted people’s spirits and brought hope. “This rainfall has come at the right time. We hope it will help reduce the impact of the drought-like situation and improve water availability,” he said.
Another resident, Fatima Noor, shared similar sentiments, saying the rain brought both happiness and relief.
“The cold has increased, but this rain gives us hope that the dry conditions will ease and the coming months will be better,” she said.
University student Hamza Khan also welcomed the rainfall, noting its importance for the province.
“Balochistan needs rain badly. Even a small spell like this can help the land and lessen the effects of prolonged dryness,” he said.
Rainfall was also reported from other districts of Balochistan, helping to settle dust and improve environmental conditions. However, colder nights are expected, and citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures.
The first winter rain has marked the seasonal transition in the province, while also renewing public hopes that improved weather conditions may help mitigate the effects of drought-like situations in Balochistan.
