ISLAMABAD: Legislators in the Senate Friday poured scorn on Indian Premier Narendra Modi for his recent aggression against Pakistan and his overall extremist policies, and asked the Indians to bring a leader who wanted peace with the neighbours.
“Modi was trying to gain political superiority. The Indian nation should learn where he is taking them,” asserted Barrister Syed Ali Zafar, who is parliamentary leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
He continued that Modi and his followers believed that Pakistan had been divided and people were not behind the army.
“But we are all united for Pakistan. The war is not over yet. There is no need to celebrate much. Modi is heartbroken, he is like a wounded rat,” he cautioned.
Taking part in the discussion, he emphasized that Pakistan had defeated India. He noted that Modi attacked Pakistan to prove India’s military superiority but his dream was shattered.
“We are proud of our brave forces and fearless pilots. They risked their lives to bring victory to the country. India attacked in the darkness of the night. Pakistan gave a strong response in the light of day by telling first. We won this battle by 6-0. Frightened by the intensity of the Pakistani attack, Modi ran for a ceasefire,” he said.
Ali Zafar said, “We are also proud of our scientists, media, young IT experts. They all contributed to the brilliant success.
The PTI lawmaker remarked, “We are proud of our politicians who forgot their political differences and prioritized the security of the country”. “We proved India is incompetent. We proved in one night that Pakistan Air Force is the king of the skies and India’s is just a drama. If we wanted, we could have made India feel ashamed because they had no defense system,” he said.
Fearing the intensity of Pakistan’s counterattack, he said Modi said they wanted ceasefire. He continued, “India itself told us that they are militarily inferior,” he remarked.
The Kashmir issue, he emphasized, has resurfaced in the world, which was in the background, and how we take Kashmir forward now is up to us.
Ali Zafar said India’s propaganda that Pakistan’s nuclear capability was not safe had failed and it had shown that its own nuclear assets were not safe.
“India has emerged as an irresponsible nuclear country on the global stage and is also known as a country that violated international laws. The world should end India’s nuclear programme,” he said.
During the war, he noted the Indian media promoted lies, hatred, and propaganda, saying the world needs to learn from the way the Pakistani media covered the war.
The world should disarm India and stop giving it arms because these are being used against Pakistani citizens, he said, adding that the myth of India’s democracy has shattered.
“The purpose of the war was to capture Pakistan’s water. We should tell India that if they stop our water, we will attack back and blow up its installations,” he said.
He proposed setting up a parliamentary committee on the Indus Water Treaty and made it clear that Pakistan had emerged as a better country at the diplomatic level.
PMLN parliamentary leader in the House Irfan Siddiqui said the most positive aspect of Pakistan’s victory in response to Indian aggression was that the government and the opposition were on the same page. This unity has never been seen before.
He contended that India’s history was clear from its relations with the neighbors; India does not have friendly relations with any of its neighbors, let alone normal relations. He billed New Delhi as an aggressor and democracy-destroying country.
Irfan demanded that India investigate Pehalgam incident through international organizations.
Talking about the recent air clash, he said this was a military defeat for India and it realised that despite having brought Israeli weapons and aircraft, it could not turn Pakistan into Gaza.
“The first two (Pak-India) wars took place during the era of dictators, this was the first time that the parliament gave a clear message in a war with India,” he pointed out.
PTI and the ruling PMLN members exchanged hot words after Senator Aon Abbas Buppi without mentioning his name, slammed ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif for allegedly keeping mum for two weeks and not uttering a single word against Modi during the conflict.
Taking part in the discussion, his remarks caused unrest in the House when the senator gave a twist to his speech by comparing the role of PTI founder Imran Khan with PML-N supreme Nawaz Sharif in the conflict.
Senator Aon said his party leader Imran Khan in a post on X titled his party’s narrative against India and said those who cannot stand against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s war were not Pakistanis. Without naming Nawaz Sharif, he said at the same time, some people kept silence for two weeks and did not utter a single word against Modi.
“Perhaps, they had some business interests and relations with Jindal. But it would be written in history that a person (whose party) was imposed on the nation and was the biggest beneficiary of the system, whose daughter was chief minister (of a province) but he didn’t say a word about Modi till today”. He also criticized Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and charged that no one more than him (minister) demeaned and embarrassed the country.
He said Pakistanis remained a divided nation, be it provincialism, sects or languages, for the last over 70 years till May 10 when ‘we became a nation’.
He said the nation, media, social media warriors stood behind this victory.
“The rulers should not forget foreign friends who stood by them in this difficult time,” he said and commended China, Turkiye and Azerbaijan for proving diplomatic support to Pakistan.
The PTI senator declined to take back his words about the PMLN supremo, as suggested by the presiding officer Sherry Rehman, who said Senator Aon had tried to ‘pollute the atmosphere of the House, though no one did this during the session.
“You are in violation of the spirit of the House. Please take your words back,” she said
Then she gave the floor to Senator Irfan Siddiqui, who was already on his feet.
The PMLN lawmaker said the leadership of all political parties was always respected on a reciprocal basis.
“It is clear whom Aon is referring to. Do not talk this way,” he advised the PTI senator and insisted on sticking to the topic. He pointed out that his party could criticize PTI leader for a number of reasons, but they don’t want to indulge in such discussion.
“If you disrespect my leader, your leader will also be disrespected,” he made it clear.
PTI Senator Humayun Mohmand sarcastically said he was misunderstood that Nawaz Sharif was silent over the issue but it was Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari, who in a statement revealed that the ex-premier deigned the whole operation against India. “Perhaps he was designing this operation while sitting in a secret place,” he remarked.
PMLN Senator Nasir Mehmood Butt said the lawmakers should care about talking against the leaders of opponent parties.
“If you respect my leader, then I will respect your leader. There is a need for unity among politicians.”
At one point, the chair reminded her own party’s Senator Jam Saifullah Khan not to read a written statement during speech and cited the relevant sub-rule, which provoked the lawmaker to stage a token walkout in protest.
Allama Nasir Abbas of MWM said Modi wanted to destroy this region, but our forces thwarted his dream with bravery.
Senator Danesh Kumar of BAP proposed the establishment of a Senate fund for the families of those martyred in the war and announced to donate Rs5 million. The House will resume now on Monday afternoon.
