ABU DHABI: The Federal Public Prosecution of the United Arab Emirates has referred the case of nine Arab nationals after completing investigation into their organised crimes of kidnapping and blackmailing, endangering state security, public order, and social peace.
According to authorities, the suspects held the victim captive for a week, subjected him to physical assault, and filmed him in a compromising position with his hands tied. The footage was later shared on social media to extort money from the victim’s family.
The UAE Federal Public Prosecution acted swiftly to arrest the suspects. Investigators recovered mobile phones and vehicles used in the crimes, which contained evidence confirming the gang’s organised criminal activities.
Officials said the gang operated in a highly coordinated manner and posed a direct threat to public safety and law and order. The accused face severe penalties, including life imprisonment or the death sentence.
UAE Attorney General Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi stressed that national security and stability remain the highest priority. He confirmed that the Public Prosecution will continue to take strict and impartial action against anyone committing crimes that threaten public peace or the nation’s security.
