Netflix has updated an official The Witcher interview after an early version appeared to suggest that Liam Hemsworth was approached to replace Henry Cavill much earlier than fans previously believed.
The revision, made to a feature published on the company’s editorial site Tudum, followed the release of the new Season 4 trailer.
In the original article, Hemsworth was quoted as saying that his “journey began with a phone call in 2020” while at home in Australia. According to the actor, his agent told him that producers “were interested in me stepping into the world of Geralt, and continuing on with this series.”
He added that an initial discussion with showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich gave him confidence to accept the role, saying, “I felt like I was going to have the support and the confidence that I needed to really pull it off.”
The mention of 2020 raised eyebrows, as Cavill remained in the lead role through The Witcher Season 3 and only announced his departure in late 2022. The line was later removed and replaced with a reference to 2022, aligning with the official timeline. Netflix did not issue a statement addressing the change.
Liam Hemsworth will take over as Geralt of Rivia when The Witcher returns on October 30. The upcoming season marks the Australian actor’s debut in the role, with the fantasy drama continuing its adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels for two final instalments.
