ISLAMABAD:
Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Musadik Malik, held a meeting on Tuesday with Mohamed Yahya, the United Nations resident and humanitarian coordinator in Pakistan.
According to an official statement, Yahya highlighted that 24 UN agencies are currently active in Pakistan, with a primary focus on supporting the country’s development and resilience, particularly in tackling climate change challenges.
The minister and the UN coordinator discussed in detail the wide range of large-scale programmes being implemented by the UN across Pakistan. Their deliberations covered the scope, implementation strategies, and impact of these initiatives, as well as future directions for enhancing cooperation in climate adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable development.
Yahya reaffirmed the UN’s strong commitment to continue supporting Pakistan in its climate change agenda and to work closely with the government in advancing shared goals for environmental sustainability and resilience.
Malik appreciated the UN’s sustained partnership and underscored the government’s determination to strengthen collaborative frameworks that ensure tangible outcomes for communities most vulnerable to climate impacts.
He said Pakistan’s focus remains on building resilience, adapting to the growing threat of climate change, and aligning national strategies with international commitments for a greener, more sustainable future.
