RAWALPINDI:
The special Anti-Terrorism Court on Thursday adjourned the hearings of 12 cases related to the May 9 incidents including the GHQ attack case until July 18.
In the GHQ attack case, three summoned witnesses failed to appear for the fourth time, resulting in the cancellation of the jail trial proceedings. The jail trial in the GHQ case has been pending for two months.
Judge Amjad Ali Shah issued a fifth summons for these three witnesses to appear at the next hearing. Additionally, arrest warrants were issued for 24 absconding party workers who failed to appear in the remaining 11 May 9-related cases.
In those cases, charge sheets are currently being distributed among the present accused. Arrest warrants have also been issued for those accused who have not yet received their charge sheets, ensuring they are summoned for the next hearing.
The court plans to complete the charge sheet distribution process for all 11 cases at the upcoming hearing. These cases include the attack on GHQ Gate 4, the Army Museum attack, the arson of a sensitive building in Saddar, the burning of the Metro Bus Station, and the vandalism of a sensitive agency’s office on Shamsabad Double Road.
Over 1,000 accused workers, including former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, former Punjab Law Minister Basharat Raja, and Sadaqat Abbasi, appeared in court on Thursday.
