District administration, local police officials confirm no loss of life or property occurred
QUETTA:
An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck Balochistan’s Khuzdar and its surrounding areas on Thursday, triggering panic among residents. However, no loss of life or property has been reported so far.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake originated at a depth of 11 kilometres, with its epicentre located approximately 45 kilometres north of Khuzdar.
Initial reports indicate that tremors were strongly felt across Khuzdar city, nearby villages, and adjoining areas. Frightened residents rushed out of their homes, shops, and offices, gathering in open spaces for safety.
District administration and local police officials confirmed that there had been no reports of casualties or significant damage. Minor vibrations were felt in buildings, and in some areas, people evacuated their homes as a precautionary measure.
Authorities have begun surveys to assess any potential damage.

The latest quake is part of a recent seismic activity in Balochistan, where earthquakes ranging between 5.5 and 5.6 magnitude were also recorded in February. Seismologists noted that while the quake was moderate in intensity, its relatively shallow depth made the tremors feel stronger.
The meteorological department and seismic centres have advised citizens to review the structural safety of their buildings, keep emergency supplies ready, and move to safer locations in case of any emergency.
Officials have assured that the situation is being closely monitored and further updates will be shared as necessary.
Last month, an earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan, with tremors felt in Islamabad, Swat, Peshawar, Chitral, and other cities across Pakistan. The PMD reported that the epicentre was located at 36.99°N latitude and 71.41°E longitude in the Hindu Kush region.
