KARACHI:
Two young men were killed and another was injured after a speeding car hit their motorcycle on the National Stadium flyover on Friday, while in a separate accident on Mauripur Road, a passenger Mazda van ran over three people, killing one and injuring two others.
As per details, a speeding car rammed into a motorcycle on the National Stadium flyover, killing two riders and injuring another. The victims were rushed to JPMC where they were identified as Zohaib, 27, and Raza, 22, while the injured youth was identified as Kamil, 27. All three were residents of Landhi.
Kamil told police that they were heading from home to Faizan-e-Madina to offer prayers. “There were six of us travelling on three motorcycles. Zohaib, Raza and I were on one motorcycle. As soon as we climbed the Stadium flyover, a speeding vehicle coming from behind hit us and fled the scene,” he said.
Following the accident, a jurisdiction dispute arose among three police stations — Aziz Bhatti, New Town and Sharae Faisal — with each station initially attempting to shift responsibility to the other. Later, the District East SSP directed the New Town SHO to proceed with legal action.
In another incident, a speeding passenger Mazda van ran over three men near Dua Hotel on Mauripur Road in the remits of Kalri police station, killing one and seriously injuring two others. The injured were shifted to Civil Hospital, where the deceased was identified as Sadiq, 50, while the injured were Sadaqat, 35, and Imran Gul, 55.
SHO Majid Alvi told The Express Tribune that the victims had brought vegetables from the Sabzi Mandi and were travelling when their vehicle suffered a tyre puncture near Dua Hotel on Mauripur Road. While they were changing the tyre, a speeding passenger Mazda ran them over.
The Mazda driver fled the scene after the accident. Police have taken the vehicle into custody and launched a search for the driver.
Tanker torched after it runs over motorcyclist
A motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a water bowser on University Road near Civic Centre, while enraged bystanders set the vehicle on fire following the accident.
According to police, the accident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Aziz Bhatti police station when a water tanker rammed into a motorcycle, killing the rider on the spot. Soon after the deadly crash, angry people present at the scene set the tanker ablaze.
A fire brigade vehicle rushed to the spot and extinguished the flames.
The body of the deceased, identified as Bashir, 55, was shifted to Civil Hospital. Police said the victim was a resident of PIB Colony near Makrani Mosque and was the maternal uncle of Ahmed Ali Magsi, the PIB Colony commander of the Lyari gang.
The errant driver managed to flee the scene, police added. The tanker has been taken into custody.
