Suspect identified as Sabeel was traced after viral footage showed him attacking the victim returning home
Girl returning home after shopping from Commercial Market was assaulted by a robber during a robbery attempt in a street near her residence after she put up resistance, in Rawalpindi on March 11, 2026.
Police have arrested a suspect involved in assaulting and opening fire on a girl during a robbery attempt in Rawalpindi, officials said on Thursday.
According to police sources, the arrest was made by a team constituted by SSP Operations Tariq Mehboob after reviewing CCTV footage of the incident.
The suspect, identified as Sabeel, reportedly hails from Kashmir. A case had earlier been registered at Waris Khan police station on the complaint of the affected girl.
CCTV footage of the incident, which later went viral on social media and circulated in the media, showed the suspect attempting to snatch the girl’s bag. When she resisted, the robber assaulted her and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

Despite the attack, the girl could be seen bravely resisting the robber. The footage also showed her chasing the suspect as he fled the area.
Police said the incident occurred when the girl was returning home after shopping from Commercial Market. During the robbery attempt in a street near her residence, the suspect subjected her to violence after she put up resistance and then escaped.
Following the circulation of the CCTV footage, teams from the Crime Control Department (CCD) also joined efforts to trace the suspect, eventually leading to his arrest.
Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
