What Britney Spears’ exes Sam Asghari, Kevin Federline say about her DUI arrest

Sam Asghari and Kevin Federline both have broken their silence on Britney Spears’s recent DUI arrest.

Asghari, 32, released a statement on Friday, two days after she was arrested in Ventura, California, after officers reported her black BMW 430i driving erratically at high speed.

“When it comes to people making mistakes, I understand that,” the model began in his statement to Fox News, while noting his focus has recently been on global events such as the ongoing conflict in Iran.

“I think that everyone deserves privacy. And I hope the press has learned from the past that they give her the privacy that she needs,” Asghari concluded.

Federline, Spears’ ex-husband and father of two of her children, also responded publicly through social media, insisting that Spears should be supported rather than judged.

“Kevin hopes for the best for Britney, and if help is necessary, he hopes that she will neither resist it or those who are attempting to work with her,” the statement obtained by TMZ reads. “The concern is whether this is just a one-off or a one more.”

Kaplan also claimed he has been in communication with Spears’ lawyer since her arrest, but that he and his client don’t have any more knowledge than what has been reported.

He also expressed hope that Spears would get the help and guidance needed during this difficult time.

Spears and Asghari began dating in 2016, married in June 2022, and separated in July 2023. Their divorce was finalised in May 2024 by the Superior Court of California, Los Angeles County. Meanwhile, Federline was married to Spears from 2004 to 2007 and shares two sons with her.

For those unversed, Spears, 44, was booked on May 4 on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol. She was released the following morning.

Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Ryan Ayers said the pop star showed signs of impairment. While she did complete field sobriety tests, chemical test results are still pending.

A spokesperson for Spears described the arrest as “an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable” but stressed that she intends to comply with the law and take steps to secure her well-being.

The representative added that Spears’ children will spend time with her and that her loved ones are working to establish a plan for her support.
