Karachi to face strong winds, sudden heavy rain as above-normal temperatures set to amplify system

KARACHI:

A western weather system is likely to affect the country between March 25 and 28, with its effects expected to be more pronounced in Balochistan, the Meteorological Department warned on Monday.

According to Anjum Nazir Zaigham, Deputy Director of the Karachi Meteorological Department, the system is expected to enter Balochistan via Iran, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall to the province. It will also affect Sindh, including Karachi, where strong winds and sudden heavy rain are likely under its influence.

The weather in Karachi today is clear, with bright sunshine. Over the next two days, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy, with daytime temperatures likely to range between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures across the country have remained above normal in February and March, the deputy director said, adding that higher-than-normal temperatures tend to increase the intensity and variability of weather patterns in the coming days.

On Sunday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said a western weather system is affecting most parts of the country, with rain and thunder expected in Karachi.

Further, rain with thunder is also likely in several districts of rural Sindh, including Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Naushahro Feroze and Dadu.

Rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, lashed several parts of Karachi early on the first day of Eidul Fitr. The downpour, which intensified at intervals, turned the festive morning into a wet and chaotic affair, forcing many citizens to alter their plans as movement became difficult in several areas.
