UK, Germany defense cooperation expands with $70 million deal for mobile artillery system

On Sunday, December 28, 2025, Britain and Germany signed an official 52 million ($70 million) joint procurement contract for a state-of- the-art mobile artillery system.

The primary goal of this deal is to acquire advanced artillery mounted on armored fighting vehicles that can fire while moving and hit targets more than 70km (44 miles) away.

According to Reuters, a Ministry of Defence statement said that the deal provides the British Army with a proof of concept RCH 155 system, along with two units for Germany to test.

The system is manufactured by Franco-German defence group KNDS and Germany’s Rheinmetall.

The official statement on this deal notes that it can fire eight rounds per minute on the move while requiring only two crew members and traveling up to 700 km without refueling.

Unlike conventional artillery systems that must stop before firing, the RCH 155 can fire on the move, enabling forces to strike immediately and relocate before enemy counter-battery fire can respond.

The new deal will open defense pathways as conventional stationary artillery has become increasingly vulnerable to drone-based strikes.

Furthermore, the UK and Germany will share data and facilities during the development, allowing both nations to accelerate procurement while reducing costs.
