Netflix released the trailer and premiere date for the docuseries examining ‘America’s Next Top Mode’l controversies

Netflix is set to revisit America’s Next Top Model with a new documentary series that examines the show’s cultural impact, controversies and enduring legacy.

The three-part series, titled Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, will bring together some of the most recognisable faces associated with the long-running competition, including host Tyra Banks, creative director Jay Manuel and runway coach Miss J. Alexander. The project marks one of the most comprehensive examinations of the franchise since it originally aired.

Since the Tyra Banks-hosted series ended its original run, America’s Next Top Model has been the subject of extensive online analysis, from compilations of judges’ remarks to detailed video essays and memoirs by former contestants. However, many of these accounts relied on second-hand information or personal recollections. Netflix’s series promises access to senior figures who shaped the show on and off screen.

According to Netflix, the series “is the definitive, must-watch chronicle of America’s Next Top Model—and the chaos in front and behind the camera. What started as a glamorous launchpad for aspiring models became a pop-culture juggernaut defined by explosive drama, public meltdowns, and controversies that still fuel viral moments today” and “features unprecedented access to former contestants, judges, and producers. Reality Check exposes the show’s complicated legacy and asks a provocative question: How far are we willing to go for entertainment?”

The documentary is directed by Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan, whose previous work has focused on crime and political subjects rather than fashion or celebrity culture. Early footage suggests the series will address issues including eating disorders, extreme makeovers, alleged misconduct and racially insensitive moments, as well as tensions between key figures on the judging panel.

Former contestants featured include Giselle Samson, Whitney Thompson, Shannon Stewart, Shandi Sullivan, Dani Evans and Keenyah Hill. Producer Ken Mok also appears, while producer Kenya Barris is notably absent from promotional material.

Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model will be released on Netflix on February 16.
