KARACHI:

Goods transporters have rejected the Sindh government’s decision to phase out vehicles older than 30 to 35 years and announced plans for a countrywide strike in protest.

Speaking at a joint press conference at Mauripur truck stand, transporter leaders Khalid Khan, Ghulam Yaseen, and Tariq Gujjar said they had invested millions of rupees in their vehicles, but the government’s “illogical policies” were crushing them. They noted that the Sindh government had decided to scrap 25-year-old vehicles and impose axle weight restrictions on 10-wheelers. “If 10-wheeler trucks are taken off the road, our businesses will collapse and losses will run into billions,” they warned.
