Nationalist leaders warn against division of Sindh, demand control of provincial resources
HYDERABAD:
Thousands of people participated in the Tahafuz-e-Sindh March organised in Hyderabad on Monday, marching nearly three kilometres from Shahbaz Building intersection to the Hyderabad Press Club. The march was led by Jeay Sindh Mahaz (JSM) Chairman Riaz Ali Chandio.
Participants chanted slogans demanding the protection of Sindh’s rights and calling for control of the province’s resources by its native population. Addressing the rally, Chandio warned against any attempt to divide Sindh under the pretext of creating new administrative units.
“We will not allow anyone to divide our motherland Sindh under the garb of administrative units,” he said. He reiterated allegations that Sindh’s oil, gas, coal, water, coastline and other natural resources were being exploited, while the local population was deprived of their benefits.
Chandio further accused the government of tacitly allowing crime and substance abuse to spread across the province, alleging that such conditions were being used to manipulate the population. “On one hand, dacoits in the riverine areas have been allowed to operate freely, and on the other, innocent people are being pushed towards narcotics,” he said.
The JSM leader claimed that recent legislation had further consolidated control over Sindh’s resources in the hands of outsiders.
