South Africa beat Afghanistan in a double super over thriller at the 2026 T20 World Cup after the group match ended in a tie at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

Afghanistan posted 187 all out in their chase after South Africa scored 187-6. The teams were tied again after a breathless first super over before South Africa won off the final ball of a heart-thumping second sudden-death showdown.

Key contributions from Ryan Rickelton (61) and Quinton de Kock (59), who shared a 114-run partnership for the second wicket.

Afghanistan’s bowlers Azmatullah Omarzai (3 wickets), captain Rashid Khan (2), and Fazalhaq Farooqi (1) claimed wickets during the innings.

In the first super over, Afghanistan batted first, scoring 17 runs, with South Africa matching the total, forcing a second super over.

In the second super over, South Africa posted 23 runs, setting Afghanistan a target of 24. Chasing the target, Afghanistan managed 19 runs off six balls, handing South Africa a four-run victory.

Afghanistan won the toss and elected to field first.
