LAHORE:

Waqas Nazir said cameras at all driving test

centres would remain functional at all times, and no licence would be issued without video evidence of the applicant’s test.

“The video backup, which was previously stored for only 15 days, will now be preserved for lifetime and integrated with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s central data centre,” he explained.

The official said the step will help authorities address loopholes and complaints that previously went unchecked due to limited video records.

“The new system will ensure that only qualified drivers receive licences,” he said.

The DIG added that driving tests would also be upgraded this month with the introduction of an artificial intelligence–based system.

“Vehicles will be equipped with cameras and sensors that will automatically detect and record mistakes made by drivers during the test,” he said.
