Public advised to avoid visiting suspicious websites and to verify authenticity of online platforms

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued a public advisory warning citizens about a fraudulent website impersonating as its official visa portal in an attempt to obtain personal information and payments.

In a statement issued on X, NADRA said a malicious website — https[:]//www[.]visa[.]nadragov[.]online — has been identified which falsely presented itself as an official platform for visa services.

“This website is not associated with NADRA and may be used to obtain personal information or payments fraudulently,” the authority said, urging citizens not to access or submit any information on the fake site.

NADRA clarified that the only official visa portal is https[:]//visa[.]nadra[.]gov[.]pk, advising users to ensure that all NADRA services are accessed only through official domains ending in .gov.pk.

The authority further cautioned the public to avoid visiting suspicious websites and to verify the authenticity of online platforms before sharing personal information.

According to NADRA, its Information Security Department has taken steps to curb such activities. “In the past month, the department has identified and taken down nine impersonating domains misusing NADRA’s name,” the statement added.

NADRA once again urged citizens to remain vigilant online and rely only on its official portal for services and information to avoid falling victim to fraud.

On Friday, NADRA clarified that digital identity documents issued through its PakID platform carry the same legal status as physical identity cards.

NADRA spokesperson Shahbaz Ali noted that some authorities had been requesting citizens to submit a physical copy or photocopy of their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) instead of accepting the digital version. He stressed that such practices violated existing legal and regulatory frameworks.

Under the National Database and Registration Authority Ordinance 2000 and the Digital Identity Regulations 2025, digital identity credentials have the same legal validity, credibility, and evidentiary value as physical CNICs, NICOPs, or POCs.

Government departments, regulated institutions, and other organisations are required to accept NADRA-issued digital IDs as valid proof of identity.
