LAHORE:

A judicial magistrate at the Lahore District Courts on Tuesday rejected a request to record the statement of Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari via video link in a case related to the alleged circulation of a fake video attributed to her on social media.

The court directed the complainant to appear in person and record her statement at the next hearing.

Judicial Magistrate Naeem Watto announced the decision after reserving the verdict on the application earlier.

During the proceedings, accused social media activist Falak Javed was produced before the court from jail.

Counsel for the minister argued that her statement should be recorded through a video link due to security concerns. However, after hearing the arguments, the court dismissed the application.

The court subsequently adjourned the hearing of the case till February 17.

The case was registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on the complaint of Azma Bukhari over the alleged viral circulation of a fake video on social media.

Falak Javed, Atiq Riaz and others have been nominated as accused.

The NCCIA has already submitted the challan in the district court.
