Weiss has offered assistance to Chase after a video of him living on the streets of California prompted concern online
Shaun Weiss has offered assistance to former Nickelodeon actor Tylor Chase after a video showing Chase living on the streets of Riverside, California, prompted concern from fans online.
Weiss, who starred as Greg Goldberg in The Mighty Ducks films and has publicly documented his recovery from addiction, addressed the situation in a video shared on Instagram.
Responding to messages he received after the footage circulated, Weiss said, “I have received many messages about Tylor Chase. I reached out to some friends of mine, and we have a bed for him at a detox, and we have a place for him to go and get long-term treatment.”
Weiss explained that a place is available for Chase at the Eleven 11 Recovery centre in San Clemente, California, provided he can be located and agrees to accept help. “All we need to do now is find him. I’m not in Los Angeles, or I would go look for him myself,” Weiss said, asking followers to contact him if they could arrange a face-to-face meeting. He added that time was a factor, saying he hoped help could be secured before the holiday period.
The video of Chase began circulating on social media last week, leading TikTok user Citlalli Wilson to set up a GoFundMe page. The fundraiser collected more than $1,200 before it was closed at the request of Chase’s mother. In a message later shared by Wilson, she quoted Chase’s mother as saying, “Tyler needs medical attention, not money. But he refuses it.”
Chase is best known for playing Martin Qwerly on Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide throughout its three-season run. His later credits included appearances in Everybody Hates Chris and the video game L.A. Noire.
Weiss, now an addiction treatment advocate, marked two years of sobriety in 2022, writing at the time, “Recovery is possible.”
