Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 search resumes after years of inactivity

The search for the long-missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which vanished over a decade ago in 2014 will resume on December 30. The aircraft had 239 people on board when it disappeared.

According to the BBC, the search which had begun in March was suspended shortly after due to inclement weather, with the total planned duration set for 55 days.

However, the latest development reinforces Malaysia’s utmost commitment to provide closure to the families affected by this tragedy.

It is pertinent to note that Flight MH370, a Boeing 777, disappeared in 2014 while travelling from Kuala Lumpur and sparked the latest search in the aviation industry.

In this connection, Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook said, “Investigation from Ocean Infinity is overseeing the current search under a “no find, no fee” arrangement.

On the contrary, a significant amount of $70m (£56m) will be granted if the wreckage is found.

It has been observed that previous attempts were made, including a multinational search involving 60 ships and 50 aircraft from 26 countries that ended in 2017, followed by a three-month effort by Ocean Infinity in 2018.

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 lost contract with air traffic control and disappeared from radar on 8 March 2014, and radar showed that it had deviated from its planned destination.

It has been observed that it remains one of most perplexing aviation mysteries, continuing to haunt the families of those on board to date.

The tragic incident has resulted in a series of speculation that the pilot had sabotaged the plane down or it had been hijacked.

The investigation was previously launched in 2018 to scrutinize the theory that the plane’s controls were deliberately manipulated, but no conclusions were found.

The Malaysian transport ministry said, “The latest development underscores the government of Malaysia’s commitment to providing closure to the families affected by this tragedy.”
