Jennifer Aniston has said that a Friends reunion without her late co-star Matthew Perry could never happen.

In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar published on October 8, the 56-year-old actor reflected on Perry’s passing and the enduring legacy of the beloved sitcom.

“It would be literally, physically impossible,” Aniston said when asked about the possibility of a future revival or remake of Friends following Perry’s death in October 2023. The actor died aged 54 from an accidental ketamine overdose, after years of openly discussing his struggles with depression and addiction.

“It’s heartbreaking that he had so many demons,” Aniston said. “But boy, for someone who had that much inner turmoil, he sure got to laugh a lot, and that was everything to him.”

Aniston starred alongside Perry, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc in Friends, which ran for ten seasons from 1994 to 2004. She described the experience as life-changing: “Friends completely formed who I was. It was pure joy. I looked forward to it every day.”

She added that the chemistry among the cast was what made the series so special. “There’s something about the chemistry of the cast that made for a lightning-in-a-bottle moment,” she said. “And that just happened to get caught on camera.”

The cast reunited in 2021 for HBO Max’s Friends: The Reunion, marking Perry’s final on-screen appearance. Since his death, Aniston and her co-stars have shared heartfelt tributes, remembering him as family.

“People will say that they go back and watch episodes to help their mental health,” Aniston said. “That’s the ultimate compliment.”
