A meeting of the JCP—a constitutional forum responsible for appointing judges to the superior judiciary—was held in the Supreme Court’s Conference Room, chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, who heads the commission.
The session was convened to deliberate on the appointment of permanent chief justices for the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Sindh High Court (SHC), Peshawar High Court (PHC) and Balochistan High Court (BHC).
It was learned that as the proceedings began, Supreme Court senior judge and JCP member Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah urged the commission to first address long-pending petitions in the apex court challenging the vires of the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
