Mercedes’ F1 pilot escaped injury after crashing his $240,000 AMG GT near his San Marino home

F1 prospect Kimi Antonelli crashes limited-edition Mercedes AMG GT days after receiving it

Andrea Kimi Antonelli escaped injury after his Mercedes AMG GT crashed into a roadside barrier near his home in San Marino over the weekend.

The 19-year-old Formula 1 prospect was alone in the vehicle when the incident occurred. A team spokesperson confirmed that no other cars were involved. Antonelli contacted the authorities, who have begun routine investigations into the cause of the crash.

The car involved was a Mercedes AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ Motorsport Collectors Edition, a limited-production model valued at approximately $240,000. Powered by a twin-turbo V8 and featuring design elements inspired by Mercedes’ Formula 1 programme, it is among the brand’s most performance-focused road cars. Images from the scene showed significant damage to the front end and passenger side after the vehicle struck a guardrail.

Emergency services attended as a precaution, but Antonelli did not require medical treatment. Reports indicate that the vehicle’s modern safety systems and structural integrity helped prevent injury. Mercedes issued a brief statement confirming the driver’s well-being.

Authorities are examining road conditions, nearby vehicles and speed as part of standard procedure. At this stage, there is no suggestion of dangerous driving, and the incident is being treated as an accident.

The crash comes just days before Antonelli is due to participate in official pre-season testing in Bahrain alongside team-mate George Russell. Sources within Mercedes indicate that preparations remain unchanged and that the Italian driver is fit and focused.

Antonelli is entering his first full season as a Mercedes race driver following a rapid progression through the junior categories, where he has long been regarded as a leading talent for the future.
