BANNU: A local court in Bannu here has sentenced a former station house officer to three months in jail and a fine of Rs 3,000 for illegally releasing an accused on bail in a fake cheque case.
The incident occurred on March 27, 2025, when the accused, Ziaullah, was arrested and subsequently released the same day on surety bonds. The complainant, Ismail, through his legal counsel Advocate Shoaib Khan Sadozai, filed a writ petition in the Peshawar High Court, Bannu Bench, challenging the legality of the bail bonds and naming the former City Police Station SHO, Zahir Khan, as a respondent.
The case was referred to a local court, where the judicial magistrate, citing non-appearance of SHO Zahir Khan, handed down a sentence of three months’ imprisonment and a Rs 3,000 fine. The court also granted the right to appeal within two weeks. In the event of non-payment of the fine, the former SHO would serve an additional two weeks of simple imprisonment.
