RAWALPINDI:
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif will inaugurate a new electric public bus service in Rawalpindi on October 15, introducing a modern, affordable, and eco-friendly transport facility for the city’s residents.
PML-N Rawalpindi Division President Malik Abrar Ahmad, on Friday, said 87 air-conditioned electric buses would be launched across four routes in phases. The first phase will operate from Rawat to Motorway Chowk, providing citizens with a comfortable and reliable commuting option.
Malik Abrar, who also serves as Chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on the Cabinet Secretariat, said the fare has been set at Rs20 per ride, while students and senior citizens (60+) would enjoy free travel.
He added that the initiative would not only offer a dignified and efficient public transport system but also help reduce traffic congestion in the city.
The MNA said that the people of Rawalpindi were eagerly awaiting the chief minister’s visit, describing the project as a landmark public welfare initiative aimed at easing daily commuting challenges and extending modern facilities to all segments of society.
Highlighting the chief minister’s broader vision, Malik Abrar said that since taking office, Maryam Nawaz Sharif had introduced wide-ranging reforms in governance, transparency, and public service delivery.
He cited notable initiatives such as the School Revamping Programme, establishment of Mother and Child Hospitals, the Punjab Green Tractor Scheme, subsidised food programmes, and digital governance reforms – all reflecting her commitment to transforming Punjab into a modern, prosperous, and welfare-oriented province.
