Dakota Johnson is unapologetic about her fearless fashion choices, including the often daring sheer gowns she wears on the red carpet.
In a recent cover interview with Vogue Germany, the 36-year-old actress and director opened up about her evolving style and why she isn’t concerned with public opinion.
When asked if she ever worries that her revealing dresses might come off as “too sexy,” Johnson replied candidly, “I really don’t care.”
She added, “I’ve been able to wear some of the most beautiful dresses, and I feel beautiful in them, so I wear them.”
The Fifty Shades of Grey star emphasised that it’s not about shock value but how the dress makes her feel.
“Sometimes those dresses look good on me. But there are also some we’ve tried on that didn’t look good at all. It depends on the shape, the finish, the color, and everything else. So if I find a beautiful dress that I feel comfortable in, of course I want to wear it! And it’s fun to wear a sexy dress.”
Johnson credits her mother, actress Melanie Griffith, for helping her feel confident in her own skin. “My mom was just very open about the topic of bodies,” she said.
“She taught us how to take care of our bodies and love them, and that our bodies are beautiful.”
In September, Johnson turned heads at the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women dinner in a sheer black Gucci gown, styled with elegant emerald jewelry.
Later that month, she appeared at the Zurich Film Festival in a second-skin indigo lace and tulle dress, opting for minimal underlayers.
