TEHRAN:
Iran’s judiciary said the death toll from a US-Israeli strike on Saturday that hit a school in the country’s south has risen to 108.
“The number of martyrs at the girls’ school in Minab has increased to 108,” the judiciary’s Mizan Online website quoted the local prosecutor’s office as saying.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said “this barbaric act is another black page in the record of countless crimes committed by the aggressors”.
The Iranian Red Crescent said on Saturday evening that at least 201 people had been killed and 747 injured in the attacks.
Minab’s provincial governor, Mohammad Radmehr, confirmed to IRNA that the Shajareye Tayabeh school had been directly attacked and that many students had been martyred.
He said rescue and aid operations were underway at the school, adding that the security situation in the city was under control.
The Iranian foreign minister vowed that the “crimes against the Iranian people will not go unanswered”.
